Information

With this MatterBridge concept, you can add nearly all of your Shelly devices via Matter to the Apple Home App (HomeKit), Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and more. There are some conditions, so please read the explanation further.

Note: This product is assembled for you and has a 1 or 2-day longer delivery time. Any other ordered items will be shipped together. For BLU Sensors and BTHome, you need a Shelly Pro or Gen3 as a Bluetooth Gateway!

If a product works with Matter, you can be pretty sure it will also work with the Apple Home App (HomeKit), Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and more. All you need is a Matter-compatible bridge for your platform, such as an Apple TV 4K, Google Nest Hub, Echo Dot, or SmartThings Hub v3. You scan the Matter QR code of your Matter product, and it is added. It couldn’t be easier. Or is it not so simple?

A Matter product must also be able to 'connect', for example, via WiFi, ZigBee, or Thread protocol. We all have a WiFi router at home, for Zigbee, you need a compatible Matter ZigBee Hub, and for the new Thread protocol, a Thread Border Router. So, make sure you have a Matter-compatible hub at home. For Apple HomeKit, for instance, you need to configure a home hub to add Matter accessories to the Home app. Matter accessories with Thread enabled require a home hub with Thread enabled, like HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) Wi-Fi + Ethernet, or a supported third-party Border Router.

Shelly works via WiFi, which makes it easier. However, Shelly devices are not yet compatible with Matter. Shelly has announced they will implement Matter integration, at least for the Gen3 devices with Shelly Chip and 8MB flash memory. There’s also talk of a possible hub. But for those who cannot wait months and want to use their old Shelly devices via Matter, there is already a MatterBridge available with a Shelly Plugin, among others. Not officially from Shelly, but it works with almost all Shelly Actors and Sensors.

How does it work?

MatterBridge is freeware and can be installed on Windows or a mini-server, allowing your smart home products to work with, for example, HomeKit via Matter. The software or plugins are made by the "community". Here is the link to the software on Github. Of course, we support the creator, but if you like it, consider clicking 'Sponsor this Project'. The installation can be complicated and labor-intensive to do yourself, and the PC running this must always be on. But not with this kit. The software is already installed and set up on a single-board mini-computer with low power consumption. You just need to connect it to your home LAN network. Truly Plug & Play.

After starting up, the MatterBridge with Shelly Plugin finds the compatible smart actors and sensors. Then, open the Apple HomeKit Home App and scan the MatterBridge QR code, click OK to add the unauthorized accessory. Next, add the devices to the Home App. And done! From now on, you can control those devices with HomeKit, or alternatively with SmartThings, Google, and Alexa. However, many Shellys already work through the regular Shelly Cloud integration with Google, Alexa, and SmartThings, so this is mainly interesting for Apple HomeKit.

The Raspberry Pi was extremely popular as a single-board mini-computer for such applications. But due to the chip shortage, a Raspberry Pi has become expensive and hard to find, often working with an SD card that can become corrupt from constant overwriting. Home2Link has tackled this and now offers an affordable, better, and faster alternative. The MatterBridge is just as fast as the RPi4 2GB and does not suffer from corrupt SD cards thanks to its 8GB eMMC flash chip, which also writes and reads much faster. A big improvement over the RPi. Additionally, this single-board computer includes WiFi and Bluetooth, with an IR receiver as well.

Which Shellys are compatible?

In principle, the MatterBridge works with almost all Shellys: 1st generation, 2nd generation, 3rd generation, and even BLU Sensors via BTHome. BLU Sensors connect via BTHome, and for this, you need a Shelly Pro or Gen3! Additionally, for some Shellys, you need to adjust some settings, but everything is explained in the included Dutch manual.
* Currently, a solution for 1st and 2nd generation sensors via multicast in HomeKit is still being worked on.
** Note: We do not support community plugins nor can we guarantee their continued functionality.
*** Not every device is supported by the plugin, and sometimes the Matter implementation of the platform is not yet complete.
