In addition to smart scenes based on motion, you can combine it with lux (light intensity) with this sensor. Ideal if you want to create a smart scene for your lighting, which only needs to turn on when it is twilight or dark. If you combine the sensor with the Thread & Matter Aqara Door Window Sensor P2, you can set up a security system.

The big advantage of Matter over Thread is the ability to connect the sensor directly to a Thread Border Router from other manufacturers. This has two important benefits: the sensor does not require a special hub from the manufacturer and can take advantage of Matter functionality, making multiple platforms accessible, such as Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and the SmartThings ecosystems. Additionally, the new sensor offers advanced automation and security features that Aqara is known for.

Important: The Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 only works with a Thread Border Router. The P2 sensor is not compatible with the old Aqara Zigbee hubs. The new Aqara Hub M3 is also a Thread Border Router with which you can connect this sensor and unlock all functionalities of the sensor. Read below what a Thread Border Router is, you might already have one at home, but it is possible that not all functionalities are available, such as the lux sensor with Alexa.
