Finally, a smart WiFi in-wall switch that doesn't require a neutral wire. Often, the blue neutral wire is missing behind your wall switch, but that's no longer an issue with the Shelly 1L WiFi in-wall switch. Note, without a neutral wire, the minimum load is 20W, otherwise, you'll need the new Shelly Bypass EU, which must be ordered separately. With a neutral wire or with the Bypass, no minimum load is required.
Control your lights or appliances wirelessly with your smartphone from anywhere in the world. Easily create smart scenes and set timers in the free app for your home automation. For example, automatically turn on your lights at sunset or start your coffee machine at 7:30 AM from Monday to Friday. Voice control with Siri, Google Assistant, or Amazon Alexa is also possible; "Hey Google, turn on the table lamp."
Install the Shelly 1L easily behind your wall switch, outlet, or near your device, and connect via WiFi with the app. Shelly offers a free app that allows you to set up a smart home system easily and affordably without the cost of a gateway or hub. After setup, you can also control the switch wirelessly with the app from anywhere in the world, integrate it into smart scenes, and set timers, such as turning on your light at sunset. Voice control with Siri, Google Assistant, or Amazon Alexa is also available. The open source ensures that you can integrate the Shelly 1L with almost any home automation system.
For installation on a DIN rail, the Shelly Dimmer 2 DIN-Rail mount or DIN-Rail mount mini is suitable.

The Shelly 1L relay switch supports 110-240VAC, up to 1000W, and supports the following load types (with and without neutral wire):
- Resistive (resistance) lamps, electric heaters,
- Inductive (LED lighting, transformers, fans, motors)
- Capacitive (motor start capacitors, generators, and synchronous motors)
* Minimum load without neutral wire, without Bypass, is 20W. With neutral wire or Bypass, no minimum load is required.
Supported types of lights:
- Incandescent lamps,
- Fluorescent lamps,
- Halogen lamps,
- Dimmable LEDs (Shelly 1L cannot dim), Non-dimmable LEDs,
- Fluorescent tubes,
- Neon lamps.
The Shelly 1L features an ESP8266 with a flashable chip. This allows you to flash your own or alternative firmware, such as T asmota or HomeKit. For this, you need a USB-to-UART 3.3V and at least 350mA adapter, like our FTDI adapter. And the best part is, you don't even need to open the Shelly. Flashing is done easily through the directly accessible pins on the outside.
NOTE: NEVER connect the Shelly 1L to the power supply while flashing!
If you prefer not to use the free Shelly cloud service but still want to control your devices remotely, that's no problem. The Shelly 1L also supports basic MQTT (Message Queue Telemetry Transport) for reliable connections via a central broker: the MQTT broker. The involved devices only communicate with the broker and do not know each other. They do not need to know the IP addresses or technical details of the other participants.
