This FTDI USB-Serial adapter features an FT232-AZ chip and is compatible with both 3.3V and 5V. Note that there are many adapters on the market with cloned chips that do not work. This FT232RL USB to TTL adapter has been extensively tested and is suitable for flashing Shelly devices or Sonoff NSPanel for example.
Some Shelly devices come with an ESP8266 that has a 2MB or 4MB flash chip. This allows you to flash your own or alternative firmware, such as Tasmota or HomeKit. For this, you need a USB-to-UART 3.3V adapter with at least 350mA, such as this FTDI adapter. The great thing is, unlike a Sonoff, you don't even need to open the Shelly; you can install the Shelly in-wall switches behind your wall switch, which will still function normally. Flashing is straightforward via the directly accessible pins on the outside.
NOTE: NEVER connect the Shelly to the power supply while flashing!
The set includes jumper wires F2M, F2F, and M2M to connect the Shelly devices to the adapter, and a USB 2.0 data cable USB A to USB mini to connect the adapter to the PC. It works with Windows, MAC, and Linux.
Unfortunately, the GPIO headers of the Shelly 2.5 and RGBW are only 1mm, and standard Dupont M2F jumper wires do not fit into the holes. To address this, we include a piece of UTP cable with solid wire, which can act as connectors with the jumper wires. Strip the UTP wires on both ends and insert them into the pinouts of the Shelly 2.5, and on the other end into the female side of the 4xF2F and 1xF2M jumper wires. Then, correctly connect the jumper wires to the FTDI adapter.
NOTE: Set the FTDI adapter to 3.3V
